Literature Club

A few weeks ago, I started doing a Literature Discussion Club. It is hosted by a home school mom in our area, who is also a writer. The class is suppose to go on till sometime in Dec. Before the class started, she sent out a list of books students will need to read for high school and also read for her class. The first two weeks, we read “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien and “The Scarlet Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorn. Both books were very different from each other in their style of writing, but were very good. The Scarlet Letter was a harder read and some parts were harder to understand. It was interesting to see more of the 1800’s style of writing than the normal style I mostly read. The Hobbit was more of a fantasy story; I do not normally read fantasy because it normally does not interest me. But this book happened to be very good. It was a fairly easy read and not to long of a book. I was told by several people in the club that the book had also been turned into a movie, but that the book was a lot better than the movie. For the Literature Club, we read one book a week and the class is on every Thursday. It is very challenging; but so far, I am having a lot of fun with it.

The object of the club is to discuss the meanings of the books, the differences in writers and certain points in the book. It has helped me see many things that I missed when I was reading by myself and opened my eyes to some of the deeper meanings of each book. It has been interesting to see everyone’s different options on certain topics in the books and the genre of books that appeal to each of them. I will hopefully get some Book Reviews up soon to let you know what I think of some the ones I’m reading. Well, keep you posted.
